Gateway FX530XT (8800GTX)

The latest Gateway FX530XT, with "factory overclocked" GeForce 8800 GTX graphics, churns out performance to rival systems costing much, much more.

Overclocked single graphics card performs like recent dual graphics solutions. Overclocked performance without esoteric cooling methods. Blu-ray and HD DVD drives available (Blu-ray in this configuration).

BTX form factor. Comes with nVidia card, but not SLI-compatible. Could use an extra data hard drive.

Gateway slips in a single-card gaming system that performs like more powerful and expensive dual-graphics-card systems

Gateway FX530XT (Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX)

The Gateway FX530XT outperforms more expensive competition due to aggressive component overclocking; no other gaming PC in this price range includes an HD DVD drive.

Messy interior; legacy motherboard limits graphics card upgrade possibilities.

Gateway's reinvigorated flagship desktop offers a compelling combination of high-end features and fast 3D gaming and multimedia. Unfortunately, the motherboard hasn't caught up, limiting its upgrade potential. That's a small flaw, and otherwise this PC...

Gateway FX530XT (Windows Vista)

We covered this system back in November when we reviewed its Windows XP-based debut. The big news here is that Gateway has added an option for Windows Vista. Unfortunately, it's an awkward time for high-end gaming PCs to use Microsoft's new operating...

Crisp exterior; updated offering includes Windows Vista.

Outdated 3D cards lack support next-generation Vista gaming graphics.

Gateway FX530XT (Vista)

The Gateway FX530XT is a fast, high-powered Vista-powered gaming platform at a good price, though we're still waiting for the games and graphics drivers to really test its mettle.

High end graphics. Quad core power. 4GB system memory. Hefty graphics card brackets. TV tuner. Fans quick to react, quiet when idle. Wireless mouse and keyboard. Overclocked without using esoteric cooling methods.

Vista isn't ready for gaming (stay tuned for drivers). Gateway's displays top out at 24 inches. No Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. External CrossFire dongle.

Gateway FX530XT

High-end gaming systems usually come in huge, heavy cases, but the FX530XT packs a quad-core processor and two graphics cards into a smaller-than-usual case that stands just 16.5 inches high. The sacrifice: You get little room for expansion.

A quad-core system in a compact case ; Attractive 24-inch wide LCD monitor

Little internal expansion room

Medium-sized system offers the quad-core CPUs and strong performance; but, its compact case has little room for expansion.

Gateway FX530XT

The Gateway FX530XT offers an overclocked quad-core Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 processor and the latest ATI graphics hardware, and it does so at a fairly reasonable price.

Intel quad-core CPU (overclocked to 3.20 GHz). Latest ATI CrossFire graphics hardware. Good price/performance for a high-end system. TV tuner and X-Fi sound card round out the multimedia goodness.

It's just a new paint job on the same case. No Gateway high-end monitor available. CrossFire graphics solution still somewhat immature.

Gateway FX530XT - Core 2 Extreme QX6700 2.66 GHz - 24 TFT review: Gateway FX530XT - Core 2 Extreme QX6700 2.66 GHz - 24 TFT

Outstanding value for one of the fastest PCs we've seen; cutting-edge quad-core processor; sharp new case design; free CPU overclocking under warrantee.

Midtower desktop case limits expandability; sloppy interior cabling compared to nearly every other high-end PC vendor's.

It's rare that you see a performance-leading PC come in below $4,000, but Gateway's FX530XT has pulled it off. Complete with an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 quad-core CPU and a pair of ATI's highest-end 3D cards, this cutting-edge desktop won't make...
