Review: Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch

Endowed with a huge display and rigged up for Sprint's 4G network, this spritely, responsive handset impresses us.

The 1.2 GHz dual-core processor provides standout performance — apps open and close quickly, transitions are smooth and gameplay is great. One of the better smartphone cameras. Big screen is fantastic for games and videos

Battery life is a drag. Onscreen keyboard is difficult to type on in portrait mode. Will go in a pocket, but doesn’t exactly “fit” in a pocket. Badly in need of a nickname

Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch review

Samsung had unprecedented success last year delivering its Galaxy S line of flagship Android phones to a global stage, and for good reason: it launched as one of the thinnest smartphones in the...

Blazingly fast ; Thin and light ; Gorgeous display

Low screen resolution compared to other high-end Android phones on the market ; TouchWiz still less attractive than stock UI ; Not a global phone (the Photon 4G is, for the same price)

The Epic 4G Touch is among the best Android phones I’ve ever used, no question about it — and considering its Galaxy S II pedigree, that doesn’t come as a big surprise

Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch (Sprint)

The Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch packs a rich, gorgeous screen and a speedy dual-core processor making it a top Android choice for Sprint.

Fast processor. Terrific screen. Great battery life.

Voice performance doesn't stand out. HDMI out requires an adapter.

Multimedia and Conclusions The big, bright screen is ideal for video. The phone comes with 16GB of storage, and there's an empty MicroSD card slot under the back cover that takes cards up to 32GB. Videos in H.264, DIVX and XVID formats at up to 1080p...

Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch Review

Not too long ago, we took an in-depth, hands-on look at the unlocked version of the Samsung Galaxy S II smartphone. At the time, the phone wasn't available in the US, so we weren't able to show you a hands-on video of a US version of the phone. Now,...

1.2GHz dual-core processor ; 1GB RAM ; 4.52-inch Super AMOLED Plus display ; Thin ; Lightweight

No qHD resolution ; No microSD card included

Now that the Samsung Galaxy S II is available through US carriers, it's much more affordable than it was when sold as an unlocked phone to US customers. As we've said before, we still would like to see a qHD screen on the Samsung Galaxy S II, but the...

Gorgeous Super AMOLED Plus display ; Incredibly light ; Very good battery life ; Screaming fast processor

Resolution is low for such a large screen ; TouchWiz is uninspiring

Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch Review (Sprint)

The Samsung Galaxy S II is one of the most highly anticipated devices to arrive in the US in quite some time, and Sprint is the first to receive it in

Lightweight yet comfortable ; Battery life is fantastic ; Speed ; Magnificent Super AMOLED Plus screen

Possible GPS issue ; WiMax hand-off issues (typical of all WiMax devices, however) ; Resolution

I must say I struggled to come up with valid Cons (other than the odd GPS issue which we are still investigating) for this outstanding device. Since I'm not a heavy world traveler (or really a world traveler at all), the GSM capabilities are less of a...

Samsung Galaxy S II Sprint Epic 4G Touch Review (Video)

The Epic 4G Touch is a second-generation Epic device on Sprint that's based on Samsung's Galaxy S II specs. In this review, we'll explore to see if this Galaxy S II variant deserves an epic name, given that it had removed two favorite features of the...

That said, the Galaxy S II is also a device that has a few quirks, and Sprint will make you choose what features you really want from the 3 flagship 4G Android smartphones on the network’s lineup. The compromise is such: if you want 3D, you’ll be...

Samsung GALAXY S II, Epic 4G Touch review

Samsung's fastest-selling smartphone ever has finally landed in the United States. The GALAXY S II will be sold by Sprint, T-Mobile and AT&T, and Verizon is expected to offer a similar phone in the near future. Sprint's model came to the market first...

If you’re in the market for a new Android phone today, look no further than the Epic 4G Touch. Samsung’s GALAXY S II family is my favorite batch of Android smartphones on the market right now, although I admittedly haven’t had a ton of time with the...
