Intel Compute Stick review (2016): Second time's the charm

I had high hopes for Intel's original Compute Stick, but it ended up being a massive disappointment. Sure, it was cool to have a fully functional computer the size of a few thumb drives. But it was awfully slow and limited in some truly baffling ways...

Powerful enough for most computing tasks ; Inexpensive ; Very portable

2GB of RAM limits multi-tasking ; Still needs to be plugged into an AC adapter

Intel's new Compute Stick bundles just about everything you'd need for a basic computer into a compact, inexpensive package. And unlike its predecessor, it works.

Impressively tiny ; Affordable ; Makes a great streaming media device

Poor performance for general computing ; Dedicated streaming devices are more intuitive

Intel Compute Stick review: Windows 10 for your TV

Why wouldn't you want an entire Windows computer on a tiny little stick? As someone who uses a MacBook day in and day out, the idea of $159 Intel's Compute Stick, a Windows 10 PC shrunken down to...

Super portable ; Plugs into any display with an HDMI port ; Runs full Windows 10 Home

2GB of RAM limits multitasking ; 32GB of built-in storage ; Can create a mess of wires

Intel Compute Stick (2016) review: Though improved, it still lacks mass appeal

For $159, the Intel Compute Stick is a pretty good deal. You get a full license for Windows 10 Home and a PC that's ready to go out of the box—just add a display, a mouse, and a keyboard to get started. And unlike Google's stick computing product, the...

Incredibly affordable Windows PC ; Improves on previous generation with addition of a second USB port ; Highly portable

Slower performance ; Limited utility

Intel Compute Stick ( 2016)

And these micro-size computers have certainly put a new meaning to to the idea of handheld computing. Starting with the original Computer Stick, a surprise hit at CES 2015 and now modestly updated for 2016, you could finally squeeze a full-featured...

The pocket-size Intel Compute Stick adds several improvements for its second generation, and it works great for casual Web surfing and HD media streaming.

Very little storage, so installing apps or downloading movies is difficult. Despite the streamlined design, extra cables and adapters make for a tangled presentation.

Intel's revamped Compute Stick promises a computer in every pocket, just be prepared for an entry-level experience, although it's still fine for email, social media and movies.

Intel Compute Stick (2016) Review

The new Intel Compute Stick is a pocket-size Windows 10 desktop that can be used with any HDMI-equipped display. It's still easy to set up and use, but its relatively minor upgrades leave us wanting more.
